Why Bungus

Bungus is a pair of enormous alpine meadows — Bodh (big) and Lokut (small) Bungus — folded into the Kupwara mountains near the Shamsbari range. Think Gulmarg's meadow scaled up many times over, with pine walls on every side, streams braided through the grass, and shepherd huts instead of hotels. It has stayed pristine because it stayed unknown.

What we arrange

Day trips from Srinagar via Handwara with a picnic lunch (there are no restaurants — we plan food properly), or camping arrangements in season for the full silence-at-dawn experience. Sturdy vehicles matter on the final stretch; we send the right one.

Good to know

Carry a warm layer even in July — at 3,000 metres the wind is honest. The last section of road is rough; the meadow makes it worth every jolt.
