Best Time to Visit Kashmir: A Month-by-Month Honest Guide

“When should we come?” is the first question on almost every WhatsApp enquiry we get. The honest answer: it depends entirely on what you want Kashmir to look like when you arrive. Here is the month-by-month reality from our office in Srinagar.

March – April: Tulips and blossoms

The Tulip Garden opens for roughly three weeks from late March — Asia's largest, against the Zabarwan backdrop. Almond and cherry blossom follows. Weather is cool (5–18°C), some rain. Hotel rates are moderate. This is our favourite underrated window.

May – June: Peak season

Everything is green, everything is open, and everyone knows it. Expect crowds at Gulmarg and Pahalgam and book at least 3–4 weeks ahead. Days are 15–28°C. If you're travelling with children, this is the safest-weather choice.

July – August: Warm valley, open passes

The valley gets warm and occasionally humid; short afternoon showers are common. But this is the best window for Ladakh extensions — every pass is open. Amarnath Yatra traffic affects Pahalgam in stretches.

September – October: Autumn gold

The chinar trees turn crimson and gold, crowds thin, and photographers get the best light of the year. Saffron harvest in Pampore is late October. We think this is Kashmir at its most beautiful — quietly.

November – February: Snow season

Gulmarg becomes one of Asia's best ski destinations — powder snow, gondola access above 3,900 m. Srinagar is cold (down to −5°C) and houseboats run heaters and bukharis. Rates outside Gulmarg drop sharply. Pack seriously warm clothing; the beauty is worth it.
